Bet Pro Sports: CHICAGO BULLS at MILWAUKEE BUCKS (2/4)

February 4th, 2012

BET PRO SPORTS: BASKETBALL — February 4

CHICAGO at MILWAUKEE
(Line: Bulls -5.5, Total 186.5) — The Bucks slipped against Detroit a coupe of nights ago, which may have been suspected as this team was just coming off its victory over the Miami Heat. But you have to take note of this team’s five consecutive pointspread wins going into that game with the Pistons, not to mention the fact that they have shown a surprising ability to score points even without Andrew Bogut in the lineup; witness six overs in their last seven games. Can Milwaukee, which shot just 35% against Detroit, cure that a little against the Bulls, who have the potential to be one of the roughest defensive teams to play against?

Take note that Chicago has covered four of the last five meetings, and that Milwaukee has had a difficult time when playing the back end of back-to-back games, going 1-6 ATS in those situations. And the Bulls might get a boost with the return of Luol Deng, who has been out with a wrist injury and is listed as a game-time decision.

Bet Pro Sports - Pro Basketball: WASHINGTON WIZARDS at ORLANDO MAGIC (2/1)

February 1st, 2012

PRO BASKETBALL — February 1

WASHINGTON at ORLANDO
(Line: Magic -10, Total 185) — Early in the season, it appeared the Orlando Magic were hardly affected at all by the unstable situation surrounding Dwight Howard, who very clearly wants to be dealt. But maybe now all of the talk, as we get closer to the All-Star game (which is in Orlando) and the trade deadline are taking something of a toll. There is tension around this organization, and the Magic has lost four games in a row (shooting below 40% in three of those games), and six of their last eight, burning a hol ein the pockets of people who bet pro sports.

The Wizards did indeed suffer a big blow with another injury to Andray Blatche, who will be for several weeks. However, Washington looks to be playing harder under new coach Randy Wittman, and JaVale McGee, who is tied for the league lead in blocked shots, makes it difficult to get complete license in the lane. However, the bugaboo with the Wizards is that they lose touch with opponents on the road; aside from the win over Charlotte, which is a worse team than they are, they have failed to get to within double digits in seven of eight road games, including a January 4 visit to the Amway Arena, where they shot 37%.

Bet Pro Sports: Purdue Boilermakers at Michigan State Spartans (1/21)

January 21st, 2012

BET PRO SPORTS - COLLEGE BASKETBALL — January 21

PURDUE at MICHIGAN STATE
(Line: Michigan State -8.5, Total 136.5) — Interesting spot for Michigan State, which had a minefield at the beginning against North Carolina and Duke, then settled down to win 15 in a row, only to lose consecutive decisions to Northwestern and Michigan. You would usually expect that Tom Izzo’s teams might stumble to a greater extent early in the season, then come on bit by bit before proving to be a sleeper in the NCAA post-season. This year is a little different, but the Spartans’ prowess on the boards is still there, as MSU has a rebound margin of +10.2.

Purdue would have been better equipped to deal with Michigan State on the glass last season, when JaJuan Johnson was on hand. But Johnson is with the Boston Celtics right now, and even though we appreciate the fact that Robbie Hummel has made a nice comeback from a couple of knee injuries, that may not be enough here, especially if the Spartans are especially eager to get back on track.

Bet Pro Sport - College Basketball: Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns at Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans (1/19)

January 19th, 2012

BET PRO SPORT - COLLEGE BASKETBALL — January 19

LOUISIANA-LAFAYETTE at ARKANSAS-LITTLE ROCK
(Bet Pro Sport Line: Ark-Little Rock -3, Total 126.5) — Little Rock hasn’t had the best of luck offensively in this series recently, shooting 39.7%, 25%. 36.8% and 38.3% in the last four meetings. Last season, neither of these teams reached 40% in either encounter.

Four of UALR’s Sun Belt wins have come by seven points or less, but that’s significant, because this team has developed the habit of winning close games, and the number is agreeable here, just as it has been over the last ten games, which have all resulted in pointspread covers. The Trojans have held four of the last five opponents under 40% from the field. And that isn’t particularly inviting for ULL, which hits a shade less than 40% on the road. And expect 6′10″ Will Neighbor, who has been back for two games after a shoulder injury, to get back in the swing of things with four full days to prepare for this one.

JAY’S PLAY: ARKANSAS-LITTLE ROCK -3 **
